It's becomes obvious that most of our members here are big fans of all kinds of Japanese animation and television shows besides Yamato. Perhaps here we can swap lists and pick up on some must see series.
As far as anime, I really like "Gatchaman." I caught ADV's dvds of it when they were releasing it a few years ago and really fell in love with the whole thing. My dad prefers the English "Battle of the Planets" version, but the show has so much more depth than it was portrayed in that version. Plus ADV's dub is a thing of amazement. Berg Katse's the man!... or woman... or whatever...
I also like Dragon Ball Z, at least one I've seen of it. I've watched through the first few seasons and have been entertained. I may eventually get around to watching the rest.
As far as live action shows, thanks to Wal-Mart's value dumps I've been introduced to two shows that I think are even better than Ultraman. They are "Iron King" and "Super Robot Red Baron." "Iron King's" characters and stories seem much more mature than other Ultraman-esque shows of the time which makes it intriguing, and the incredible giant robot action in "Super Robot Red Baron" is highly addictive. Ken and the Secret Science Investigation group must use the amazing "million horse power" super robot to defeat Dr. Deviler and his insidious Iron Alliance!!!

I'm a sucker for anything that I grew up watching as a kid which is why Star Blazers is such a huge thing for me currently. Robotech was another series that really stayed with me, and like you, YamatoGuru, I am currently enjoying ADV's Gatchaman dvd's. I grew up on Battle of the Planets, but after watching an episode of BotP and then the same episode of Gatchaman, and seeing how much Sandy Frank took out, I knew I had to see the series uncut (although I'm not a big fan of the new dub, so I just watch with the subs.) I also just finished watching the first Captain Harlock series, and thought it was amazing, and today I picked up the complete Beast King Golion dvd set after watching a couple of episodes at a friend's and seeing how different the uncut episodes were compared to Voltron.
As for live action, again it's all nostalgic stuff for me. The very 1st Ultraman is probably at the top of my list, followed by Space Giants & Johnny Sokko. I also really dig the crazy Japanese live-action Spider-man where he has the giant robot, but haven't really seen a whole lot of episodes of that. Old school Godzilla movies are also something I'm always down to watch.
As for newer anime, well not really new anymore, but post-childhood, Gurren Lagann, Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus, and Great Teacher Onizuka are some of my all-time favorites.

I myself happen to be a fan of Japanese television.
Besides anything "Space Battleship Yamato", I have a number of favorites. My favorites include: -the 1960s "Ultraman" (amazing live-action SFX show with giant-superhero-vs.-monster battles) -"Gigantor" -"Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" (it's actually fun to watch in both original and "Battle of The Planets" edits) -"The Super Dimension Fortress Macross" (gotta love those transforming space fighters and the gigantic transforming spaceship SDF-1 Macross) -"Space Pirate Captain Harlock" -"The Galaxy Railways" (those space trains with utlities rock, and the Yuki android is cute) -"Dragon Ball" (the first DB series because Son Goku is more fun as a kid adventurer than as an adult fighter) -the 1960s "Speed Racer" -"Galaxy Angel" -"Mazinger Z" -"Voltron: Defender of The Universe" (thoguh I haven't yet seen all the Vehicle Voltron episodes) -"Lupin III" (the old school series of course) -"Death Note" -"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" -"Gurren Lagann" -"School Rumble" -"Azumanga Daioh!" -"Cardcaptor Sakura" (fun to see one cute female superhero with a variety of battle costumes) -"Tokyo Mew Mew" -"Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex" (it's police action meets cyborgs) -"Corpse Princess" (even dead warriors can look hot or cute) -all "Gundam" Anime
