A point of curiosity...what exactly is the Plot Line of Great Yamato no. 0? It is the plotline I am least familiar with (it got some prettty bad reviews) and I've only seen a short clip of it on YouTube? How does it fit in with the main Yamato continuity and the rest of the Matsumotoverse?
Also, I'm sure some out there have seen the "new" Galaxy Express Graphic Novel/Manga by Matsumoto (from 1998 translated by Viz) where the Yamato we are familiar with is running about the Sea of Stars along with the Arcadia and the Mahoroba, thus putting her in the larger Matsumoto-verse (even though the crew is never seen). The Yamato was also seen very briefly animated in DNA SIGHTS 999x (cruising up to escort the hero's ship along with the Arcadia) Sort of interesting to have two versions of her (the classic version and the Great Yamato No. 0) version running about the same universe.
Anyone have any theories or continuinity on this? I have my own theory as to what the original Yamato is doing floating around in the 2900's and who is in command, but it's a somewhat strange theory I reserve to my fanfics (which are out there at times-in fact, most of the time.....LOL)

Regarding the Yamato cameo in the "Galaxy Express 999" manga you're referring to and in "DNA Sights 999.9", there are two possible theories to consider. Theory 1: Leiji Matsumoto, who owns rights to the conceptual art and character and ship designs of the 1970s and 1980s "Space Battleship Yamato" anime, wanted to use the Yamato for visual gags (kinda' like how "Family Guy" includes gag appearance of characters from non-Seth Macfarlane-created works). Theory 2: it's possible that Matsumoto was using the Yamato design for other ships in his manga, though they appear to be nameless.
Now, in terms of contuinity, "Great Yamato No. 0" was created to avoid being placed in the continuity of the original "Space Battleship Yamato" series, owing to the fact that in 2002, the Tokyo District Court ruled that all the rights to characters and story of the original SBY series belonged to producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki with Matsumoto only having visual rights to the same anime classic. Furthermore, all featured characters in this anime, according to StarBlazers.com, share no family history with the original SBY's characters, although their designs were modified from those included in "Space Battleship Great Yamato", Leiji Matsumoto's own manga sequel to "Final Yamato" (ex: the design of Susumu Kodai's 32nd century descendant in the "Great Yamato" manga was modified for the character of Shinma Oki from "Great Yamato No. 0")
