Of the three T.V. series of the "Space Battleship Yamato" franchise so far, I find "Space Battleship Yamato III" (known in North America as "Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars")" to be the best of them all, despite that it's the most obscure of them. What makes it awesome are that 1) it tells from a more neutral perspective (in terms of the complex mix of good and bad for both Bolar and Gamilus-Galman) as it depicts a three-way conflict (Earth Defense Force Vs. Gamilus-Galman Empire Vs. Bolar Federation), 2) it provides a lot of Lord Dessler's background, 3) it has variety of color shades in the space sky (like green, blue, and red) to give the audience a feeling of distinct areas of the cosmos, and 4) there's of course the warlike music tunes. Although I never watched the original Japanese version this series, it's nice to know that English dub of this, in contrast to the dubs of earlier SBY T.V. series, didn't remove any of the dramatic moments and mature content (not even any of the casualties in the storyplot). I'm open to hearing your thoughts and commentaries on this T.V. series.

You can certainly tell the difference in feel from the first two series. "The Bolar Wars" was an interesting change of pace, and the story, while it probably would have been better had it had all the episodes originally intended, holds up considerably well.
The Yamato gets some great new crewmen (though the important ones don't last long...), and the new villains are fun namely the "Lone Wolf of Space" with his space subs and of course Prime Minister Bemlayze with his goofy appearance and hilarious accent. I think it's hilarious anyway. ;D
