A few years ago, I got the chance to see the English language "Space Cruiser Yamato" version of 1977's "Space Battleship Yamato" (better known as "Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie") on youtube after checking out the links at StarBlazers.com, and despite a few character name changes and the use of alternate footage a few scenes, I found it to be one of the best English dubs in anime history so far; good voice-acting and no censoring of any non-kid-friendly moments that are important to the story. However, I was disappointed that a few key moments of the first "Space Battleship Yamato" series (like the destruction of the Gamilus's planet bomb generator and the WWII flashbacks) weren't included in the dub.
It's a shame that there's no DVD release of this dub (not even in North America), despite that it was shown in theaters in the U.S. and other English-speaking nations during the 1970s. A DVD release of this dub would have been a good option for "Space Battleship Yamato" fans who either claim to have trouble with watching subs of anime or that they prefer dubs to subs when watching movies of non-English-speaking nations.
Any thoughts about this obscure English dub of the film classic?

I've only seen clips of this from what Tim put in his documentary. How different is the "Space Cruiser" cut as compared to the 1st theatrical Japanese film or is there even a difference other than the language?

The article about the movie at starblazers.com still contains links to the whole film on youtube, so you can see it for yourself. To find the article, enter the "Yamato movie" department (bottom left of the home page), click on "articles," and select "Space Cruiser Yamato." Enjoy!
