Besides "Space Battleship Yamato", Leiji Matsumoto created anime that are amoung my anime favorites, and my favorite Leiji Matsumoto anime so far include "Space Pirate Captain Harlock", "Galaxy Express 999" (Movie), "Adieu Galaxy Express 999", "Arcadia of My Youth", and "The Galaxy Railways". So I was wondering, is/are there any anime of Leiji Matsumoto's that is/are your favorite(s), besides anything "Space Battleship Yamato"?

I just recently finished watching the 1st Space Pirate Captain Harlock series in its entirety, and thought it was fantastic. The early episodes especially were very well directed and very stylish for the time.
I also thought the first Galaxy Express 999 movie was very good, and enjoyed the animation quality of the second film, although I didn't think the story was as strong as the first movie. Very big fan of the designs for Herlock: Endless Odyssey, and I felt the series started off well but really fell off the table at the end. Haha.
On the other end of the spectrum, I'd have to rate Cosmo Warrior Zero as the worst Leiji-verse series I've ever seen. Such a disappointment, cuz I'm a big fan of Keisuke Masunaga's work, and the English dub team they used is usually very strong. Starting with the very Titanic-esque opening sequence which totally dates itself, and with the shoestring budget leading to lots of static images with moving mouths only. Had a tough time making it to the end of that one. Haha.

If you ever get to watch "Dai Yamato Zero Go," it will very quickly replace CWZ as your least-favorite Matsumoto series. That thing is a big, stinky train wreck that is as hard on the eyes as it is on the brain. CWZ isn't very good, but at least it still has a story you can follow. Dai Yamato has a concept for a story that somehow went right to anime before it got developed. Watching it is like eating raw hamburger meat. Yeccch.
