OK, I know that everyone loves the Yamato (it's hard not to, right?), but of all the hundreds of other space vessels what is everyone's second favorite ship from the series? Mine's always been Desslok's rebuilt flagship from the Comet Empire series. I thought it had an interesting design in the first series but when it appeared all tricked out in the second I fell in love. I mean the things got a ton of gun turrets, Desslok mine launchers, cozy interior, and the Desslok cannon. Most of all, though, I think my favorite addition was that of the SMITE guns. SMITE technology is such a trademark of the Gamilon fleet, and is always employed in their greatest strategies. I know General Lysis' command saucer had similar apparatus, but Desslok's ship also has a Desslok cannon so it wins. Sorry Lysis.

As a young kid, I never cared much for Desslok's flagships, especially when contrasted next to the Yamato. They were just too simple looking for my young mind. However, now as an adult it is that same simplicity in their streamlined designs that make both of Desslok's flagships two of the most beautifully designed ships from the series. In fact, simple is probably not the right word, as they both are very intricate in their own right. Both versions are definitely two of my favorites.
However, for me personally, they fall behind the Andromeda. Haha. Not terribly creative, as I know that this is probably a popular answer for most. A Miyatake/Matsumoto design on steroids. Even those who only have faint memories of Star Blazers always remember the ship with two wave motion guns! ;D

The Andromeda is an awesome ship, I really like the design. I was ecstatic to see the design pop up again in "Resurrection," it's just too bad that it didn't get much screen time.

I'll put in my (uncreative) vote for the Andromeda. It's the only Earth ship that comes even close to the Yamato in terms of, you know, actually doing something. Every other Earth ship was just a speed bump for invasion forces.
The Space Battleship Arizona could have been a contender if it had its planned storyline in Y3. Hopefully, Tim's Bolar Wars Extended will show the Arizona some love!

I agree, hardy, the Arizona has always intrigued me. That tease in the Bolar Wars just lets the imagination run wild. Oh, and welcome to the Star Force!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm Art from the SYC list, BTW.
The Arizona would have been awesome. I can't find a link right now, but there was an outline of the planned 52 episode version of Yamato III. Some of the episodes were to focus almost exclusively on the Arizona. "The Sinking of the Space Battleship Arizona" sequence was intended to rival the grounding of the Deathshadow in Matsumoto's Arcadia of my Youth.
It sounds like it'll be awhile before Tim gets to the Arizona in BWE, but I can't wait. For one thing, it'll be nice to see it as something other than a wreck!

Yes, the Arizona will have a major role to play in the latter episodes of 'Bolar Wars Extended.' I'm anxious to get to it, too (I've always loved that ship) but all things in due course. Currently working on chapter 5 (of 12); first half will be online in just two weeks along with a ton of other cool stuff.

Apart from the good ol' Yamato, my favorite ships from the "Space Battleship Yamato" franchise include the Andromeda (one combat machine with double wave motion guns) and of course Zordar's Dreadnaught (gotta' admit its design and dark color scheme look awesome and what massive power it has in smashing one opponent's ship's weaponry within a few minutes).
