On Feb 21, News website Deadline reveals that U.S. film company Skydance Productions is currently in talks about trying to get the rights to make a live-action movie based on the "Star Blazers" dub of "Space Battleship Yamato". The same site also mentions that if the deal gets through, the company's head David Ellison and Josh Klein will produce the movie itself with Christopher McQuarrie writing the screenplay. This is perhaps the first time an American company announces intentions on doing a "Star Blazers" film since 2006 when BenderSpink (creator of "American Pie") announced its attempt to do one. This would be nice to see, but odds are last year's Yamato film will get a domestic release well before they finish, and that will be a really hard act to follow. Skydance's best shot, if the project actually goes into production, might be to follow the TV series storyline more closely.

Not sure how I'd feel about it. I guess I'd have to reserve judgement until I knew more about what they'd plan on doing with the story...
